*** CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED!! WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON AMIE KAUFMAN’S BLOG ON FRIDAY 7/27! ***
All week, we’re celebrating the launch of Susan Dennard’s Something Strange and Deadly with amazing one-day giveaways.
The winner of yesterday’s SSaDOutbreak giveaway is Sara M.! Make sure to contact Kat Zhang to nab your ARCs of ORIGIN by Jessica Khoury and SKINNY by Donna Cooner.
For my giveaway, I wanted to focus on the unique historical setting and steampunk style of SSaD. Susan Dennard’s 1876 Philadelphia is a city bristling with new technology and necromancy– think corsets, brilliant inventors, society parties, and, of course, the walking dead.
Armed only with a parasol, how does one take out a zombie?
Words to live by.
So, today and ONLY TODAY, you have the chance to win
A black lace PARASOL inspired by heroine Eleanor Fitt
and
A QUERY CRITIQUE from agent Joanna Volpe of New Leaf Literary.
Yes, that’s right. Not only can you stay out of the sun in high Victorian style, you can have your work critiqued by a fabulous agent who not only reps me and Susan Dennard, but also (ahem) Veronica Roth.
You have two ways to enter:
1. Leave a comment below.
2. Tweet about this giveaway using hashtag #SSaDOutbreak and #parasol
Suggested tweet: Today only! Win a #parasol and query critique from agent Joanna Volpe!! Join the #SSaDOutbreak at http://wp.me/p1fTUr-wl
Please note: This giveaway is US only. Entries close at MIDNIGHT, so get on it!
The winner will be announced tomorrow on the next stop of the blog tour, so be sure to check back. Here’s what’s still ahead:
- Friday 7/27: Amie Kaufman chats about SS&D and love interests
- Monday 7/30: Marie Lu takes a look at SS&D and action
- Tuesday 7/31: Susan Dennard announces the grand prize winner!
In the meantime, don’t forget to enter the grand prize giveaway for a chance to snag some epic prizes– an amazon gift card, highly coveted ARCs, crits from authors Erin Bowman and Sarah J. Maas and agent Joanna Volpe, and more! For details on how to enter, click here.

I’m so excited to read this book! I remember reading the query when it was posted somewhere during WriteOn Con last year—it sounded so cool that I actually started telling my non-conference-attending friend about it.
Anyhoo, I’d totally be down for a critique and a parasol. Thank you for offering this!
Oh, and I tweeted: http://dft.ba/-3bgp

That parasol would be fun to have in the California sun!
Ooooh, pick me, pick me! *flaily hands*
I’m really excited that the book is set in Philadelphia! Can’t wait to read how the setting and where Elenore explores (Philadelphia is such an ignored city in literature, as a rule, so it’ll be a treat to recognizes places and street names).
This book sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it! Thanks for the contest!

I won’t pretend that I’m not brainstorming ways to use a parasol in a zombie apocalypse setting.
However, I also managed to tweet: https://twitter.com/ChelseaVBC/status/228543238435389440
Can’t wait to read Something Strange and Deadly! Sounds amazing
I could be the most stylish chick in Texas.

That is a very nice parasol. I kind of want it. A lot.
Though, assuming zombies aren’t going to attack, I am unsure what I will do with it.
And I’m slightly more excited about the chance for a critique.
Also, here is my tweet: https://twitter.com/caitlingss/statuses/228544592323174400

Book looks great! The prizes are pretty awesome too.
I already can’t wait to dig into SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY but to do so with a parasol? I’m down! Thanks, Leigh and Joanna, for this opportunity! And while we’re on it, congrats regarding New Leaf! May the rest of this year bless you guys beyond your wildest imaginations.
With love!

And a big thank you to Leigh Bardugo and Joanna Volpe for this contest!
I LOVE that parasol, what a unique and awesome giveaway! And the book sounds incredible, too. I think Jo is an amazing agent, and I would be thrilled to win a critique from her! Here’s my link to my tweet:

Parasol as a deadly weapon? Love it!
I went to a fun steampunk festival just last weekend. My costume is lame though – the parasol would help! And the critique would be wonderful. Really looking forward to Strange and Deadly.
Thanks so much for this!!!
Great giveaway
So excited about this book! Even more so now that I have the enticing visual of this lovely parasol to accompany it!
I tweeted it.
I’m so excited for Susan; I think this outbreak is a fantastic idea! I think it’s showing off just how awesome the Internet can be, AND is pretty heartwarming too, to see how writing friends can band together to celebrate each other’s accomplishments….and I’ve just loved these blog posts so far, too! =)
Am really really dying to read this. AND have kind of had a thing for parasols (especially the ones used in self defence against the undead) ever since reading Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate.

I would love to enter? This story didn’t seem like my thing at first, but the internet is gradually winning me over.
Snort….aim for the knees.
My curiosity was piqued about this novel as soon as I saw the pins New Leaf posted on Pinterest. A parasol would be quite a handy way to help this red head stay out of the sun…and I’d love to get a query critique from an agent I know has such great taste (as she reps the wonderful Erica O’Rourke and Holly McDowell)!
Wow this is the best giveaway ever thanks for this awesome giveaway

Sidenote – my twitter feed goes straight to my FaceBook update – my husband saw a thumbnail pic of the parasol and thought it was a “lady’s butt.” I laughed and told him he was a perv, but if you just glance at it….um…yeah.

Just so happens I’m actually reading this book! They’ve just visited the cemetery. Excited about contest!
This sounds so awesome! I want to read this book so badly!
I WANT THE PARASOL!! Cause I love Eleanor and want to break some knee caps, I mean shade myself from the sun! It would have been especially helpful on the beach while reading SSD where I got a funky sunburn bc I was so riveted!!! So as you can see, I really deserve the parasol!! ;o)

Ooh… You and Veronica Roth… awesome authors… I’m reading this.
I’m not entering, in case it’s still open.
This is an Awesome give away! I Love Shadow and Bone. Excellent job. I also love steampunk (and tsarpunk). Thank you for the opportunity to win a query critique, that would be an amazing prize on its own (the book and parasol that matches my corset awesome bonus!) https://twitter.com/BranDingaling/status/233045489560481793
